Scandinavian Christmas

  • The Lodge at Lion's Park 6197 Casitas Pass Road Carpinteria, CA, 93013 United States (map)

If anyone knows how to celebrate Christmas, it is the Scandinavians!  Some of us who were born in that part of the world remember.  Others remember the stories told by parents or grandparents.  All conclude that it is THE family event of the year!

We begin by gathering for a social hour, a time to say glædelig jul to old friends. There will be time to browse the Silent Auction items and place your bid.  Remember, this is our annual fund raiser through which we support our scholarships.

  • At 6 we begin the Santa Lucia Pageant with this year’s Lucia portrayed by Lucy Crabb.  This is a special time for the children as they are the focus of our attention.

  •  At 6:30, we will be serving a sumptuous dinner that features Scandinavian dishes catered by Jack’s Bistro.  Of course, there will be Swedish meatballs, and YES there will be rice pudding for dessert, and we know that this is Santa Claus’ favorite dish, so he may well stop by!

  •  At 8, we begin the Live Auction.  This is the time when we generate the resources that will support our two types of scholarships.  This year’s list of items to be auctioned includes some truly fabulous items!

What makes this event so special?

The Danish expression, Hygge, conveys the idea of warmth, caring, family, candle lights, wonderful food, the Santa Lucia pageant, singing and dancing around the tree, a cup of gløgg, and the wonderful experience of just being together at this time of year.  That’s Christmas; that’s hygge.

Cost:  $70 for adult members ($75 for non-members), $35 for students, and $12 for children ages 6-10.
